n8n is a tool for making repetitive work run itself, and a free alternative to Zapier. You draw the steps as a chain of blocks: the first one starts it (a set time, a new row arriving, a website sending a signal), the others fetch data or open other apps, and n8n runs them one after another. Timing, retrying after a failure and branching come included, there are hundreds of ready-made connections, and hosting it yourself is free. The catch is it needs a server of its own that somebody has to keep running.
